Comments - Terrific scene of Prince Genji enjoying an evening's entertainment at a teahouse. Dancers perform the "Ise Ondo," a famous folk song and dance made popular in the Furuichi entertainment district at Ise during the Edo era. Dressed in identical kimono, they move gracefully along a verandah and across a bridge at right, waving fans as the young nobleman smiles with delight. His sword bearer kneels behind him, and trays with refreshments are set out before him. A shirabyoshi dancer sits across from him, holding a sake cup as she watches the other performers over her shoulder. An attractive design with wonderful detail in the perspective view of the interior. The Boston Museum of Fine Arts also has this image in its collection.
